What is a CEETL Faculty Fellow?
CEETL Faculty Fellows contribute specialized expertise to timely initiatives in support of the mission, values, and priorities of the Center and SF State. A current focus for Spring 2020 is on promoting inclusive teaching and learning practices, especially as they relate to first year students in the “Golden 5” courses, and further developing and expanding the CEETL Certificate in First Year Pedagogies for Inclusive Excellence (FY PIE).
Who is eligible to become a Faculty Fellow?
Lecturer Faculty and Tenure/Tenured Track faculty with demonstrated commitment to equitable and inclusive teaching practices at SF State, with the ability to participate in semester-long development activities. Former CEETL Faculty Fellows (i.e. CEETL Fellows-for-Life) are welcome to apply.
What are the expectations for the Faculty Fellows?
Spring 2020 Faculty Fellows will share some common responsibilities, such as actively participating in the CEETL Faculty Fellow Community of Practice and providing feedback to faculty on their Teaching ePortfolios. In addition, each of the three Faculty Fellows will have responsibilities particular to their role:
Faculty Fellow for Pedagogies for Inclusive Excellence [Critical Thinking]
Not filled for Spring 2020; Will open for Fall 2020
In partnership with CEETL colleagues, the Faculty Fellow for Critical Thinking will:
- Provide outreach and communications to faculty teaching the Critical Thinking component in the General Education sequence;
- Identify faculty teaching outcomes for Critical Thinking at the curricular, course, lesson, interpersonal and intrapersonal level;
- Develop and facilitate a professional development program in support of these Critical Thinking outcomes to fulfill the Equitable Teaching Foundations component of the FY PIE Certificate;
- Provide feedback to faculty members who submit a Teaching ePortfolio to complete their FY PIE Certificate;
- Actively participate in the CEETL Faculty Fellow Community of Practice.
How will Faculty Fellows be compensated?
Faculty Fellows will receive a one course buyout for Spring 2020, with a possibility for renewal in Fall 2020. After successful completion of the fellowship, the faculty member will become a “Fellow for Life” and may have opportunities to earn additional stipends for facilitating workshops, small group instructional feedback sessions (SGIFs), or other engagements that support ongoing CEETL programs.

Follow this Faculty Fellow application link to submit a brief CV (up to 5 pages) and letter of application (up to 1,000 words) that describes your commitment to equitable and inclusive teaching, and identifies the unique skills, experiences, and expertise you would bring to one of these three Faculty Fellow roles: Faculty Fellow for Critical Thinking; Faculty Fellow for Reflective Teaching Practice; or Faculty Fellow for Data Informed Quality Learning & Teaching.
The letter must be signed by both you and your department chair, thus indicating their willingness to support your application. Your department chair may also choose to email firstname.lastname@example.org with their letter of support.
