The Center for Equity and Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CEETL) provides programming for faculty across all ranks to promote evidenced-based and social-justice-oriented teaching that supports diverse SF State learners.

CEETL AI Workshop Series
The following 3 workshops being offered are aimed at developing the instructor’s understanding and use of Generative AI Tools as it applies to pedagogy.
- AI Tools for Faculty: Can AI tools improve your teaching life? This interactive workshop will help you discover whether AI tools can enhance instruction, course materials, and student engagement. Learn about, explore, and critique new AI tools marketed to faculty. September 24th @ 12-1:30 pm on Zoom
- Building AI Skills and Knowledge into the Curriculum: Where does AI fit in your curriculum? Hands-on workshop to revise SLOs and assignments to give students practice in using AI tools and to develop their knowledge of the potential and limitations of these tools, October 22nd @ 12-1:30 pm in LIB 286
- Critical AI in the Classroom: Do AI tools promote bias? Are they exploitative? Environmentally harmful? Learn about the field of Critical AI. A hands-on workshop designed to wrestle with the ethical, social, and cultural implications of new technologies, and to discuss best practices in developing students’ critical AI literacy, November 19th @ 12-1:30 pm on Zoom

GWAR Learning Community
Open forums for GWAR faculty to discuss challenges and opportunities in teaching GWAR courses. We encourage participants to attend the WRAC workshop series to bring ideas into the Brown Bag sessions.

Student Success Programs
Small Group Instructional Feedback
The Small Group Instructional Feedback (SGIF) is a formative, mid-course check-in process to gather information from students about their learning experience to inform faculty's pedagogical decisions during the semester. You will work with a small group of colleagues from different departments to receive and provide a SGIF for each other.
SGIF groups will run between weeks 5-10 of the semester (Sept 23, 2024- Nov 1, 2024) and participation should take no more than 6 hours of your time. Eligible faculty will receive a stipend for $300.
There are limited spots available. Registration begins September 9. Please register for the program no later than September 20 at the link above.
Asynchronous courses are not supported at this time.
Equity Priority 5 Faculty Learning Community
A cross-programmatic working group that supports departments teaching high failure, multi-section, first-year courses. Fall 24 focus is on equity gaps.
Program Leads meet online, once a month, on 2nd Fridays, for 2 hours per meeting.

Excellence in Online Pedagogies
The Excellence in Online Pedagogies course is designed to equip faculty with essential approaches to designing and enhancing online synchronous and asynchronous courses. Academic Technology and the Center for Equity and Excellence in Teaching and Learning are excited to invite faculty interested in learning more about teaching online courses to enroll in this summer’s Excellence in Online Pedagogies professional development offering.
Course Topics:
Evaluating online courses using quality standard rubrics, Orienting students to online learning expectations, Addressing the digital divide and inequities through course design, Developing engaging, inclusive and collaborative online activities and assignments, Humanizing online courses and creating social and cognitive presence, Teaching strategies related to artificial intelligence.
Earn a Digital Badge!
You can earn a special Excellence in Online Pedagogies digital badge acknowledging your completion of this course. To do so, you must work through the 5 course modules, complete a course map and schedule and attend a consultation with AT instructional designers or CEETL teaching & learning specialist to review your course map. We estimate that it will require 10 hours to complete these items and earn your digital badge. You can find more information on the course website once you enroll. "

A year-long Professional Learning Community for new tenure track faculty (Years 1 &2) aimed at collaborative knowledge building and teaching & scholarship support.

New Lecturer Faculty TLC
A 6-week synchronous course for new lecturer faculty (1-2 years) to enhance pedagogy, foster connections with peers, and share resources for student success.
The course will run from September 30 to November 8
Lecturer faculty will be expected to commit 10 hours and will be paid a stipend of $500
Modality: Online with an in-person reception on December 4

Fall 2024 CEETL Faculty Writing Meet-Ups
CEETL-organized Faculty writing meet ups provide opportunities for faculty to check-in briefly about their writing and ample time to quietly work on individual writing projects.
Meet from 1-3 PM on

Summer 2024 Offerings
Data informed Transformation Teaching and Learning Community
CEETL will be facilitating Data-Informed Teaching and Learning Community for 2 weeks from June 17-June 28.
Instructors who have completed the CSU equity-minded pedagogy course in Fall 2023 or Spring 2024 are invited to join. In this community, we will look at our course-equity portal to assess student success, equity gaps and ways to engage and inspire our students to be successful. Limited spots are available for those who did not complete the equity-minded pedagogy course. Participants will be assigned buddies and will be expected to complete 3 hours of asynchronous work, 2 hours of buddy time and 3 hours of synchronous zoom meetings. Participating faculty will receive a $400 stipend. Please sign up only if you can commit to these dates and times for the synchronous meetings: Monday, June 17 12-1pm and Friday, June 28, 12-2pm.

SGIF is a formative, mid-course check-in process to gather information about student learning experience to inform faculty's pedagogical decisions. You will work with a small group of colleagues from different departments to gather and share information about student experience in a confidential, non-evaluative process. The SGIF process is designed to be a valuable tool to examine and enhance your teaching, and it is intentionally separate from official peer observation processes that may be part of departmental retention, tenure, and promotion. SGIF groups will run during weeks 1-4 of the R1 summer session. Participating faculty will be eligible for a $300 stipend. Spots are limited! If you would like to join a SGIF team and if you are teaching an asynchronous course during the R1 summer session.
