Engage in specialized CEETL faculty developing programming that addresses foundational and specialized teaching and learning theory and practices, with a focus on social justice and inclusion in teaching and learning.  Build community with your faculty peers.

Spring 2024 Offerings

New Faculty Professional Development Community (first and second year faculty)

Facilitated by Dr. Stephanie Sisk-Hilton

The in-person PLC will meet on Friday mornings once per month, in the CEETL conference room (Lib 242). We'll meet 9:30-10:45. I then invite you to use the space for a co-writing session from 10:45-12:00 if that's something that would be helpful to you. Meeting dates for the in-person PLC are February 9, March 8, April 12, and May 10.

The online PLC will meet on Monday mornings once per month, via Zoom. We will meet 9:00-10:30 on February 19, March 18, April 15, May 20

Small Group Instructional Feedback

Facilitated by Dr. Stephanie Sisk-Hilton

Small Group Instructional Feedback is a formative, mid-course check-in process to gather information about student learning experience to inform faculty's pedagogical decisions. You will work with a small group of colleagues from different departments to gather and share information about student experience in a confidential, non-evaluative process. The SGIF process is designed to be a valuable tool to examine and enhance your teaching, and it is intentionally separate from official peer observation processes that may be part of departmental retention, tenure, and promotion.

GWAR Learning Community

CEETL is excited to announce a new opportunity just for GWAR instructors in Spring 2024.

We will be holding GWAR Second Wednesdays Brown Bags at 11:30am-12:30pm in LIB 242. These will be open forums to discuss challenges and opportunities as they unfold across the semester. CEETL will provide resources in the areas of assignment re-designs; grading; and teaching with AI. If you are teaching GWAR, please consider dropping by. No RSVP necessary. A $50 honoraria will be awarded to all Faculty participants for each session. These are in-person sessions.

JEDI: Critical Digital Tools 

Facilitated by Dr. Kira Donnell

Spring 2024's CEETL JEDI series will focus on the digital domain. Join us as we discuss innovative ways in which to use technology in the classroom, consider ways in which digital platforms have helped and/or hindered equity and access in education, and explore practices and perspectives that will ensure that we and our students uphold just and equitable digital citizenship in our classrooms, communities, and beyond.

A $50 stipend will be awarded to all Faculty participants for each session. These are in-person sessions.

Spring 2024 Transforms CEETL Faculty Writing Meet-Ups

Come! Join fellow faculty in structured, dedicated and quiet writing time.

SF State Transforms and CEETL will host weekly faculty writing meet-ups during the Spring 2024 semester. Sessions will provide opportunities for faculty to check-in about their writing and ample time to quietly work on individual writing projects. This writing meet-up is part of Transforms and CEETL’s continued efforts to create greater faculty scholarship on campus.  

The Transforms-CEETL Writing Meet-Ups are scheduled for every 1st and 3rd Tuesday from 1-3pm and every 2nd and 4th Friday from 1-3pm. Tuesday sessions will be hybrid; join virtually or come in person to the University Library. Friday sessions are virtual.

CEETL Discussion Circles

CEETL holds discussion circles with faculty to brainstorm about topical issues that faculty are facing in the classroom and in their interactions with students. In Spring 2024, CEETL will hold two separate series of discussions. For more information about upcoming circles, click on the link above

Equity Priority 5 Faculty Learning Community

Facilitated by Dr. Anoshua Chaudhuri

To support departments teaching multi-section first year courses, CEETL continues to support with funding and a faculty learning community that meets once a month. The purpose is to create a community of teaching practice across campus to support all faculty teaching and learning and student success. Equity Priority 5 Program Leads meet on the second Friday of each month from 9.30am-11am.

Data informed Transformation Teaching and Learning Community 

Facilitated by Dr. Anoshua Chaudhuri & Dr. Ron Marzke

In this community of practice, a faculty cohort of CEETL Equity Fellows will learn about data-informed teaching towards building a just and equitable classroom. Faculty will learn about various data sources and what to do with the data to create inclusive classrooms. They will share experiences and strategies to explain or critique the evidence and be the leaders who can inform and influence campus policy.

Abolitionist Teaching and Learning Community 

Facilitated by Dr. Kasturi Ray 

Abolitionist Teaching (AT) is a non-punitive pedagogy drawn from Black feminist activism and scholarship on carcerality, community, intersectionality, and Black joy in the face of the "educational survival complex" (Bettina L. Love [2023] Punished for Dreaming: How School Reform Harms Black Children and How We Heal). 

During the first three weeks of this course, we will consider problems such as absenteeism, achievement gaps, and reform through the Abolitionist Teaching frameworks of mattering, aspirations, and relationality instead. In our final week, we will have a public forum to discuss our findings; and launch a larger discussion about best practices in the use of AT on our campus. 

This is a 15-hour, discussion-based online learning community with both synchronous discussion and asynchronous Canvas activities. It runs from February 2-March 15 2024. Our online meetings are on Fridays 10am-12pm: Feb 2; Feb 9; Feb 16; Mar 8.

Resource Courses

Excellence in Online Pedagogies:

Academic Technology and the Center for Equity and Excellence in Teaching and Learning invite faculty of online courses to register for “Excellence in Online Pedagogies,”  a course that covers essential approaches to designing online synchronous and asynchronous courses. Participants can expect to design or refine online their courses by engaging in five modules over 10 hours and completing a course map deliverable.  

The course launches Tuesday, April 2, 2024 and runs until Friday, April 26. Faculty who complete 10 hours and the course deliverable within this time frame will receive $500.
